The basic requirement of any dental practice is the operating environment, in conformance with health and hygiene standards. The Sandi Surgery is a new facility in which every detail suggests the utmost attention to the patient and to new technologies. Inside, everything has a specific functional position so as to be readily accessible and easily manageable. The Sandri surgery has an inviting reception room with state of the art illumination and an LCD TV; the floor is of planks of light wood, the perimeter walls are white, while the interior walls are in silver grey trowelled stucco with a wax polish finish. The idea was to clearly distinguish the different zones according to their function. The centre of the clinic was reserved for services, so the reception, waiting area, the Panoramic radiography room (low energy radiation), the dental laboratory and sterilisation room have silver walls and, except for the X-ray room which has a screen door, all the other doors are in glass with etched bands, so that patients, walking clockwise along the hallway leading to the 5 studios, can see the activities being conducted inside. The clothes worn are deliberately less formal and in colours that render the whole environment more welcoming, especially to younger patients.
In this project where all the services have been carefully selected, Plana was chosen for the electrical system. Appreciated for its linearity, the full range of services it provides, the large controls and its aesthetics which, with the silver metallic plaque, is able to perfectly match both white walls and stuccoed silver walls. The priority was to uniquely decorate the common areas and clinic rooms and still meet all the requirements for connection and control.
With Plana, in addition to power outlets and lighting controls, each room temperature is controlled by dedicated thermostats, the data and telephone network is distributed as well as a cable radio system with separate musical program selection possible for each environment. All the rooms, as well as having computers connected via the LAN to the central server where the data is stored on all patients as well as the appointments calendar, feature TV, Satellite and CCTV connections to be able to perform demonstrations and training courses with possible interaction between the various rooms. Also of note is the use of signal lights to indicate that the X-ray room is currently in operation, which is controlled from the outside of each clinic with a bipolar control key.
