Castel Sonnino: where Vimar technology is integrated into Neo-Mediaeval architecture

Perched high above the sea, nestled among the rugged cliffs of Romito, stands Castel Sonnino, majestic and solemn, like an ancient guardian of the coast. Situated just a few kilometres from Livorno and the captivating hamlet of Quercianella, this Neo-Mediaeval-style building is enchanting both for its panoramic position and the allure of its walls, which narrate centuries of history.

Project description

Castel Sonnino: history and restoration

Its origins date back to the sixteenth Century, when the Medici family constructed a fortress to protect the riviera from pirate raids. From a simple watchtower, it was transformed into a genuine fortified castle in the 18th Century, and only at the end of the 19th Century did it become the private summer residence of Baron Sidney Sonnino, then the Minister of the Treasury of the Kingdom of Italy, whose name it still bears. In 1987, the property was acquired by engineer Sergio Pucciarini, a former Naval Officer and entrepreneur. Today, following meticulous conservative restoration, completed in 2025 by the Tono Architettura&Interior Design studio at the behest of the Pucciarini family, Castel Sonnino continues to tell its story, maintaining its distinctive charm. Every space is designed to bring together the majesty of the past with the functionality of the present, making the venue ideal for special events.

Classic geometries and premium finishes

Surrounded by the expressiveness of natural materials and the warm hues of the furnishings, Vimar technology has been installed, specifically the Eikon Exé and Linea wiring series. The perfect combination of precision technology and impeccable craftsmanship, available in various materials and prestigious finishes, from stone and metal to glass, and capable of perfectly integrating into any environment, creating an original look every time. In this magical setting, Eikon Exé was chosen in the traditional design, featuring a brushed dark bronze finish and anthracite grey controls. Slim profiles and squared corners characterise a cover plate that is the pure essence of form and material. The devices installed are perfectly visible and arranged in an orderly manner on the elegant padded fabric headboards, on the stylish bathroom wood panelling, and in all the communal areas. A classic, defined geometry, in harmony with the residence’s austere and noble architecture.

A minimalist touch in a historic setting

In a service wing on the lower floor, separate from the main noble hall, with direct access to the exterior garden, there is a large, stainless steel kitchen equipped for events. It is amid the white plaster walls and the metallic shades of the furnishings that the minimalism of the Linea series blends in, chosen here in the white version with black axial controls, which offer precise operation, thanks to patented technology, further highlighting the perfect flatness between the buttons and the surface.

Thus, where the force of the sea meets the solidity of the stone, Vimar technology integrates seamlessly into the Neo-Mediaeval architecture, emphasising its timeless beauty and transforming every space into a unique experience, suspended between past and future.
