Its commitment to sustainability is evident in the way it consciously manages resources and raw materials, adopting innovative techniques and production processes with low environmental impact, using recycled or recyclable packaging, and choosing recyclable materials also to manufacture components. In this process, an important role is played by the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). This is a voluntary declaration verified by a third party that aims to measure the environmental performance of a product based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) analysis, which allows to determine and define not just resource consumption but also the impact that each life cycle stage of the product has on the environment.
For electric and electronic products, the reference programme is PEP Ecopassport. This is an international programme that sets the criteria to be used for LCA in order to comply with the requirements of the ISO 14025 standard. EPD documents can be used in different contexts; for example, in the sustainability protocols of buildings on both local and international level.
EPD-PEP certificates can contribute to the score required to obtain LEED and BREEAM certificates, which guarantee the compliance of residential and commercial building with internationally recognised sustainability performance requirements.
In this context, EPD-PEP Ecopassport certifications are available for all high-rotating products in the Linea, Eikon, Arké and Plana series and junction boxes; they will be flagged with the relevant mark in every product sheet on www.vimar.com.
